How to back up your website in Sitebuilder

To avoid losing all the work you've put into building your website, it's wise to make a backup of your website regularly.

Making a (manual) backup

When you want to make a backup, click the drop-down menu next to 'Publish' at the top right of the start page. Then choose the 'Backup/Restore' option.

You now see the pop-up below. By default, 'Backup' is already selected.

Now click the 'Download Backup' option.

The system now makes a backup of your website and downloads it as a separate file to your computer.

When you look for the 'Downloads' folder in File Explorer on your computer, you'll see the backup file there. You can now drag this file to a location/folder of your choice on your computer.

The backup of your website is now stored only on your computer!

Automatic backups

Sitebuilder automatically makes its own backups every 5 minutes, but only if changes have been made to your website.

Theory7 backups

Depending on the hosting plan you have with Theory7, Theory7 also makes automatic backups, not only of your website but of all your data. These backups are stored on Theory7's servers.

So in theory, 3 different backups of your website may have been made.

TIP

To keep control over your backups, we would advise you to work primarily with manual backups, and to also use these backups if you ever need to restore. The advantage is that you know best when making a backup is useful (for example, because you've just done a lot of work on your website).

This way, you can actually use the automatic backups as a 'backup' of your manually made backups, not least because the automatic backups are stored in a different location than your own computer.
