Reset your password by email

The standard method for most users:

  1. Go to facebook.com and click Forgot password?
  2. Enter your email address, phone number or username
  3. Select the email address where you want to receive the recovery code
  4. Click Continue
  5. Check your inbox (and spam folder) for the 6-digit code
  6. Enter the code on Facebook
  7. Choose Continue and create a new password
  8. Optional: log out of all devices for extra security

Reset your password by SMS

If you have linked a phone number to your account:

  1. Click Forgot password? on the login page
  2. Enter your phone number (with country code +31 for the Netherlands)
  3. Choose Send code via SMS
  4. Enter the code you received
  5. Create a new strong password

Reset your password through trusted contacts

Have you set up trusted contacts? Then they can help you:

  1. Click Forgot password? and find your account
  2. Choose No longer have access to these? at the bottom
  3. Select Get recovery codes from friends
  4. Facebook sends codes to your trusted contacts
  5. Ask them for the codes and enter them
  6. Set a new password

No access to your recovery email or phone?

If you don't have access to your recovery details:

  • Try all email addresses: You may have linked several email addresses to Facebook
  • Use identity verification: Facebook may ask you to upload an ID document
  • Recognize friends in photos: Facebook may ask you to identify friends as extra verification
  • Wait 24 hours: If there is suspicious activity, Facebook may set a waiting period
  • Visit facebook.com/hacked: If you think your account has been hacked
