Introduction

DigiD is your digital ID for government websites in the Netherlands. You need it for things like filing your tax return, applying for benefits and allowances (toeslagen), and accessing MijnOverheid. If you have forgotten your DigiD password, you can no longer log in to important government services. Fortunately, you can easily request a new password.

No, for security reasons the activation code is always sent by mail to your GBA address (the address registered with your municipality), unless you use the DigiD app.

What if I don't receive the letter?

Wait at least 5 working days. Still no letter? Then request a new code or contact the DigiD helpdesk.

Can I have more than one DigiD account?

No, you may have only one DigiD per person. If you request a new one, your old one is blocked automatically.

Does DigiD work abroad?

Yes, you can use DigiD worldwide. The letter with the activation code is only sent to an address in the Netherlands.
