What do you need?

To get started with Marktplaats you need:

  • An email address or a Google/Apple account
  • A phone number for verification
  • A Dutch bank account (for payments)
  • To be at least 18 years old (to sell)
  • Photos of your products (for listings)

Creating an account step by step

Step 1: Go to Marktplaats

  1. Go to marktplaats.nl
  2. At the top right, click Inloggen (Log in)
  3. Choose Registreren (Register)

Step 2: Choose a sign-up method

You have three options:

Option A - With email:

  1. Enter your email address
  2. Create a password
  3. Confirm your email through the verification link

Option B - With Google:

  1. Click Doorgaan met Google (Continue with Google)
  2. Select your Google account
  3. Grant permission

Option C - With Apple:

  1. Click Doorgaan met Apple (Continue with Apple)
  2. Sign in with your Apple ID
  3. Choose whether to share or hide your email

Step 3: Complete your profile

  1. Enter your first and last name
  2. Add your phone number
  3. Confirm your phone number with the SMS code
  4. Optionally, add a profile photo

Step 4: Post your first listing

  1. Click Plaats advertentie (Place listing)
  2. Choose a category
  3. Upload photos (at least 1, at most 24)
  4. Write a title and description
  5. Set a price
  6. Publish your listing

  1. Go to Mijn Marktplaats > Instellingen (My Marktplaats > Settings)
  2. Click Betalingen (Payments)
  3. Add your IBAN
  4. Turn on Betaalverzoek (payment request) for safe transactions

Is Marktplaats free? Yes, creating an account and posting listings is free. There are paid options to make your listing more visible.

How do I avoid scams? Use Marktplaats' official payment methods, never share your bank details in messages, and be alert to offers that seem too good to be true.

Can I sell anonymously? Your name is not visible, only your username. Your contact details are only shared if you communicate about it.

How do I remove my listing? Go to Mijn advertenties (My listings), click the listing and choose Verwijderen (Delete) or Verkocht (Sold).

What if a buyer does not pay? With 'Bieden' (bidding), you can send the buyer a reminder. If they do not respond, you can cancel the bid and sell to the next buyer.

How do I get more responses to my listing? Use good photos, a clear description and a realistic price, and post your listing at a busy time (weekday evenings).
