Why an Apple ID?

An Apple ID is your personal account for all Apple services. Without an Apple ID you can't download apps, use iCloud or make purchases in the App Store. It's the key to the entire Apple ecosystem.

What do you need?

  • A valid email address (this becomes your Apple ID)
  • A phone number for verification
  • Your date of birth
  • An Apple device or computer with an internet connection
  • 10 minutes of your time

Creating an account step by step

Step 1: Go to the Apple ID website

Open your browser and go to appleid.apple.com. Click Create Your Apple ID.

Step 2: Fill in your personal details

Enter your first and last name, followed by your country and date of birth. Apple uses this for age verification.

Step 3: Choose your Apple ID

Your email address becomes your Apple ID. Enter an existing email address that you use regularly.

Step 4: Create a strong password

Your password must contain at least 8 characters, with uppercase letters, lowercase letters and at least 1 number.

Step 5: Set up security questions

Choose three security questions and provide the answers. Remember them well for account recovery.

Step 6: Verify your email address

Apple sends a verification code to your email address. Enter this code to confirm your email.

Step 7: Verify your phone number

Enter your phone number and receive a text message with a verification code. Enter it to complete the registration.

Securing your account

Turning on two-factor authentication

  1. Go to appleid.apple.com and sign in
  2. Go to Sign-In and Security
  3. Click Two-Factor Authentication
  4. Follow the instructions to add your trusted devices

Every time you sign in on a new device, you'll receive a code on your trusted Apple device.

First steps after creating your account

  • Set up iCloud: Go to Settings > [Your name] > iCloud on your iPhone or iPad
  • Visit the App Store: Download your first apps with your new Apple ID
  • Add a payment method: Add a credit card or iDEAL for purchases
  • Find My iPhone: Turn this on for extra security in case of loss or theft

Frequently asked questions

Can I change my Apple ID email address? Yes, go to appleid.apple.com, sign in and change your email address under Apple ID. You'll need to verify the new address.

What does an Apple ID cost? An Apple ID is completely free. You only pay for any apps, music or extra iCloud storage you choose to buy.

Can I have multiple Apple IDs? Yes, but it isn't recommended. Your purchases and data are linked to one Apple ID and can't be merged.
