Do you want to build a professional website yourself without any technical knowledge? With the Divi Builder for WordPress, that's super easy. In this guide we explain step by step how to get started: from installing WordPress to using ready-made layouts in Divi. Perfect if you're working with WordPress for the first time or simply want quick results.

Step 1: Install WordPress first

Before you can get started with Divi, you need a working WordPress website. Don't worry, we have a clear guide ready for you.​


Step 2: Buy and download Divi from Elegant Themes

  1. Go to elegantthemes.com.

  2. In the top right, click "Pricing or "Join to Download.

  3. Choose the plan that suits you (yearly or lifetime).

  4. Create an account and check out.

  5. After payment, you can download the Divi Builder from your dashboard:

    • Click "Downloads

    • Download the theme's .zip file (Divi Theme)


Step 3: Install Divi in WordPress

  1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard.

  2. In the menu on the left, go to "Appearance" > "Themes.

  3. Click "Add New and then "Upload Theme.

  4. Choose the .zip file you downloaded from Elegant Themes.

  5. Click "Install Now and then "Activate.

Your Divi Builder is now active!


Step 4: Create a new page with Divi

  1. In the dashboard, go to "Pages" > "Add New Page.

  2. Give your page a name, for example "Welcome".

  3. Click "Edit With The Divi Builder (purple button).

  4. You get 3 choices:

    • Build From Scratch: Start on your own.

    • Choose A Premade Layout: Start with a nice predesigned layout.

    • Clone Existing Page: Handy if you want to reuse a page.


Step 5: Understand how Divi works: sections, rows and modules

  • Sections (blue): these are the largest blocks, comparable to chapters.

  • Rows (green): these split a section into columns.

  • Modules (gray): this is where you add content such as text, images, buttons, videos and so on.

So you build your page up layer by layer.


Step 6: Use an existing layout

  1. When creating your page, choose "Choose A Premade Layout.

  2. You'll see a library with hundreds of designs.

  3. Select a design and click "Use this layout.

  4. Divi imports everything automatically, including images and structure.


Handy tips for beginners

Save regularly
Click the purple circle at the bottom and then the green check mark to save your changes.

View on mobile
Click the desktop icon at the bottom to switch to the mobile/tablet view.

Undo function
Made a mistake? Just use Ctrl+Z (or Command+Z on Mac) or click the clock icon at the bottom to restore earlier versions.


Common mistakes (prevention is better than cure)

Forgetting to click 'Save
Always check that you've saved your work before you click away!

Editing the wrong page
Keep an eye on the page title in the top left, so you know for sure you're editing the right one.
