Privacy and WHOIS: what's visible?
Since GDPR came into effect in 2018, the WHOIS data of domain name holders is no longer publicly visible by default. For .nl domains, SIDN only shows the registrar's name, not the holder's personal data anymore. This protects the privacy of individual domain name holders, but makes it harder to find out who's behind a particular domain.
There are, however, still legal ways to find out the owner of a domain name. Through a court order, SIDN can be compelled to release holder data, for example in cases of suspected fraud or trademark infringement. You can also contact the domain name holder through the registrar without their data being directly revealed. For business domains, the information is often easier to find through the company registration or VAT number listed on the website.
